The Coe Method of Music Theory

The Coe Method of Music Theory was developed between 2019 and 2022 in a French Catholic school in Toronto. It is divided into 4 parts. In part 1, the student learns to identify the notes on the musical staff, whether in the modern music staff or the Gregorian chant staff, as well as the basic rhythms. The note identification is taught gradually: The student learns to identify the notes on a staff of one line and gradually arrives at the staff of five lines. Part 2 resumes the subjects of Part 1, but in more depth. In part 3, the student deepens his knowledge of rhythm and learns the major and minor scales, as well as intervals. In part 4, the student learns the difference between simple and compound measures, Greek modes and other scales, in addition to having an introduction to the study of harmony that contains triads and 7th chords, as well as cadences. The exercise book allows the student to consolidate his learning.
