Program note:
Divertimento in honor of St Francis de Sales was composed soon after I started studying the Baroque flute. The piece mixes Medieval and Baroque ideas with some modern techniques. The form is similar to a Rondo, that is to say, a refrain appears from time to time. The piece is dedicated to Saint Francis de Sales (1567 – 1622), whose book “Introduction to the Devout Life” has a chapter on allowable amusements and recreations.
